{"id":207463,"date":"2026-06-30T20:48:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T01:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=207463"},"modified":"2026-06-30T20:49:01","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T01:49:01","slug":"red-cross-needs-blood-donations-local-drives-scheduled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2026\/06\/30\/red-cross-needs-blood-donations-local-drives-scheduled\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Cross needs blood donations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Northeast Chapter of the American Red Cross Indiana Region, which serves a handful of counties in northwest Ohio has put out the call \u2013 blood donations are desperately needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isis Chaverri, Regional Communication Director Indiana Region, said the Red Cross typically sees a decrease in donations during the summer months, due to people spending time on vacation or engaging in other summertime activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe blood need doesn\u2019t take a break or vacation, so we are urging donors to come out and roll up a sleeve to help us ensure that we have a healthy blood supply during the summer,\u201d Chaverri said. \u201cWe need donors of all blood types to donate and help those who may need transfusions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guidelines for donating blood are fairly simple \u2013 donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit. A donor must be in good health and feeling well on the day of donation.
