{"id":207736,"date":"2026-07-10T21:30:50","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T02:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=207736"},"modified":"2026-07-10T21:30:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T02:30:52","slug":"no-cyclosporiasis-cases-reported-locally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2026\/07\/10\/no-cyclosporiasis-cases-reported-locally\/","title":{"rendered":"No cyclosporiasis cases reported locally"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent staff<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that a gastrointestinal disease that has sickened hundreds of people across multiple states recently, including Ohio, has not hit home &#8211; at least not yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 200 cyclosporiasis cases have been confirmed in in the state this year and the majority have occurred since mid-June. 28 Ohioans have been hospitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Wert County does not have any known cases at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyclosporiasis is not typically life-threatening but can cause watery and sometimes explosive diarrhea. The illness is caused by a microscopic parasite \u2013&nbsp;Cyclospora cayetanensis, also known as&nbsp;Cyclospora.
