{"id":208198,"date":"2026-07-23T20:29:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=208198"},"modified":"2026-07-23T20:29:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:29:48","slug":"project-update-given-boe-handles-personnel-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2026\/07\/23\/project-update-given-boe-handles-personnel-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Project update given, BOE handles personnel matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"517\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Matt-Dube-7-2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208183\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Crestview Superintendent Matt Dube gave an update on the district&#8217;s athletic facilities upgrades project. <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; During a very brief meeting of the Crestview Local Schools Board of Education on Thursday, Superintendent Matt Dube gave an update on the district\u2019s massive athletic facilities upgrade project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dube informed the board that much of the outdoor portion of project is ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople who move dirt like to move dirt and they\u2019re way ahead of schedule,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is all graded out and you can see \u2013 there\u2019s the track, there\u2019s the football field, there\u2019s the concession stand building, there\u2019s the bleachers \u2013 you can see them plain as day. Now, just because the dirt movers are ahead of schedule doesn\u2019t mean the (football) turf ordering is on schedule \u2013 that\u2019s on time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverything is going smoothly out there,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted while things are going well outside, work indoors is going at a slower than expected pace due to a couple of unexpected issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe ran into an issue with the (gym) floor, Dube explained. \u201cWhen we took the floor up\u2026we had two very different levels to our floors, very different surfaces. We had the original floor from the 1950s or whatever it was and the new floors around the periphery of that. Cincinnati Floor would not come in and put their floor down on that without revoking their warranty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had the floor leveled and Cincinnati Floor was in today and ok\u2019d it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said their was an issue with a large decal on the wall but the problem has since been corrected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The gym was scheduled to be ready by September 1 but that projection has been pushed back by a week or two.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once complete, the athletic facilities upgrade is expected to cost between $13.5-$14 million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bus routes for the new school year were given approval, along with lunch prices, athletic ticket prices, educational fees for preschool and student workbook fees, and a list of substitute teachers teachers, paraprofessionals and school nurses from the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A service contract with the Western Buckeye ESC, a professional services agreement with Westwood Behavorial Health Center and a district land lease agreement with Jordan Miller were approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board approved a two-year contract with Carly Covarrubias as program services director and one-year contracts for Megan Wollenhaupt as an elementary intervention specialist, Abigail Ortiz as a food service worker and Shane Leeth as a bus driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of coaches for the upcoming school year were approved, including Kole Roleston, head baseball coach; Meghan Lautzenheiser, head softball coach; John Rosebrock, head track coach; Terry Crowle, varsity baseball assistant; Trever Sheets, junior varsity baseball; Coty French, eighth grade baseball; Michael Joseph, seventh grade baseball; Jada Preston, varsity softball assistant; Dylan Hicks, junior varsity softball; Brian Bassett, eighth grade softball; Randy Grandstaff, Rachel Alvarez and Matthew Speelman, varsity track assistants; Lillie Rosebrock, middle school track, and Emiliee Boyd, middle school basketball cheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following volunteer coaches were approved: baseball \u2013 Kyle Hammons, James Lichtensteiger, Nathan Lichtle, Matt Perkins, Chad Pugh and Spencer Roleston; softball \u2013 Aimee Bassett, Jared Owens and Breena Grace, and track \u2013 Deanna Grandstaff and Tom Williman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before adjourning for the evening, board members went into executive session to discuss personnel, but no action was taken afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next meeting of the Crestview Local Schools Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, August 17, in the multi-purpose room.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent editor CONVOY &#8212; During a very brief meeting of the Crestview Local Schools Board of Education on Thursday, Superintendent Matt Dube gave an update on the district\u2019s massive athletic facilities upgrade project.
