Questionable swings, death trap merry-go-rounds, wooden cinders and metal slides that could cause second degree burns are just some of the things that come to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was then, this is now and at Lincolnview Elementary, students and the community are now able to enjoy a brand new state-of-the-art playground.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LV-playground-6-8-2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208842\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This brand new slide will provide many years of fun. <em>Scott Truxell photos<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Swings, slides, and plenty of climbing attractions, including one that looks like a giant spider web, an \u201cAreo-Glider\u201d and more were on full display during a Thursday evening open house at the playground. Judging by the reactions of dozens of children and their families, it\u2019s a big hit. Prior to the open house, there was a brief ceremony and school officials cut the ribbon on the new $1.5 million facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re so proud of what we have,\u201d Superintendent Jeff Snyder said. \u201cI can\u2019t thank our board enough for the vision of wanting to do this for our kids. I know that $1.5 million is a lot of money but this is going to be used all day, probably day, not in the winter so much but maybe a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt fits all needs of all kids and it\u2019s comprehensive,\u201d he continued. \u201cAny challenged kids that have physical needs, growth needs, we\u2019ve hit it. We\u2019ve tried to hit every part of it and we tried to get the neatest things for kids, things that are safe but fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe added so many more fun things. We took out all the mulch that for 26 years was in this area and we put in poured rubber, so now there\u2019s no mulch going into the building, it\u2019s not on shoes, kids don\u2019t have it in their hands, it\u2019s more safe and more condusive for the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little different than our time when we got to be on the playground,\u201d he added with a chuckle.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inspiration for Lincolnview\u2019s new playground came from a neighboring school district \u2013 Spencerville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe went over and looked at theirs and we loved what we saw,\u201d Snyder stated. \u201cWe did our homework and looked at other places and heard great responses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on that, Lincolnview school officials gave Midstates Recreation the green light to design and install the new playground.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Lincolnview\u2019s old playground wasn\u2019t nearly as bad as playgrounds of several decades ago, Snyder previously noted it was growing old and was in need of replacement.
