{"id":208933,"date":"2026-08-16T20:30:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T01:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=208933"},"modified":"2026-08-16T20:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T01:30:40","slug":"oshp-securing-loads-saves-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2026\/08\/16\/oshp-securing-loads-saves-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"OSHP: securing loads saves lives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging all commercial drivers, construction haulers and companies transporting materials to make sure their load is properly secured before traveling on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As traffic continues throughout the summer construction season and into the back-to-school season, troopers are seeing a rise in incidents involving debris falling from trucks and trailers \u2013 putting motorists at significant risk.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/OSHP-Logo-e1532741570657.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-105227\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Unsecured or unchecked loads can lead to dangerous roadway conditions, including flying debris, sudden obstacles and unexpected hazards that leave drivers with little time to react. Even a small object, such as a rock or piece of loose material, can cause serious vehicle damage, impair visibility or trigger chain\u2011reaction crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaking sure a load is properly secured isn\u2019t just a regulatory requirement, it\u2019s a responsibility that directly impacts every driver who shares the road,\u201d said Lieutenant Jacob D. Landis, OSHP Licensing and Commercial Standards. \u201cWhen debris enters the roadway, the consequences can be devastating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Patrol encourages companies and operators to conduct routine inspections of trucks, trailers and equipment before every trip. This includes verifying that load covers are in place, tie\u2011downs are secure and material is properly contained.
