All 12 and under swimmers must qualify at sectionals to compete in the Northwest Ohio YMCA Championships at Fremont on March 10.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21443\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21443\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Marlins-at-sectionals-3-2012-Sam-Easley.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21443 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Marlins-at-sectionals-3-2012-Sam-Easley.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21443\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marlin Sam Easley swims the butterfly during Northwest Ohio Sectionals held Saturday in Defiance. (photo submitted)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In order to qualify in individual events, the top five swimmers from the two sectionals automatically qualify, and then the next 10 at-large by time qualify, for a total of 20 swimmers per event. The 13 and Over automatically advance to the championships and are seeded by their fastest times from league play.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Van Wert\u2019s Sam Easley easily stole the show. Easley qualified as a first seed in all six events he competed in and, along the way, established five new sectional records.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Pollock and Jamie Burenga led the way in the 8 &amp; Under Girls Division. Pollock won all of her individual events and will be the top seed at the Fremont championships. Burenga will be seeded right behind Pollock, as she had three second places, a third and fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Miller, Katie McVaigh and Addison Henkaline also qualified in all five of their individual events. McVaigh brought home three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.\u00a0 Also qualifying for individual events at championships were Risa Pollock (4), Andrew Henkaline (4) and Aaron Stant (2).<\/p>\n<p>In total, the Marlins qualified nine swimmers out of 12 in 45 events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Van Wert at NW Sectionals<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> <\/span><\/strong>(all distances are yards)<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>8 &amp; Under Girls: <\/strong>Emma Pollock \u2013 1<sup>st<\/sup> 100 IM, 25 Freestyle, 25 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle and 25 Backstroke.\u00a0 Jamie Burenga \u2013 2<sup>nd<\/sup> 25 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke; 3<sup>rd<\/sup> 25 Butterfly; 5<sup>th<\/sup> 25 Backstroke.<\/li>\n<li><strong>8 &amp; Under Boys:<\/strong> Daniel Miller \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> 100 IM and 25 Freestyle; 5<sup>th<\/sup> 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke; 7<sup>th<\/sup> 25 Backstroke.\u00a0 Luke Miller \u2013 21 25 Freestyle; 22<sup>nd<\/sup> 50 Freestyle and 25<sup>th<\/sup> 25 Backstroke.<\/li>\n<li><strong>10 &amp; Under Girls<\/strong>: Risa Pollock \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> 50 Breaststroke; 5<sup>th<\/sup> 200 Backstroke; 6<sup>th<\/sup> 100 IM; 9<sup>th<\/sup> 50 Freestyle; 13<sup>th<\/sup> 50 Backstroke.\u00a0 Katie McVaigh \u2013 2<sup>nd<\/sup> 100 IM, 100 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke; 3<sup>rd<\/sup> 50 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly.
