{"id":21913,"date":"2012-03-14T04:06:18","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T09:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=21913"},"modified":"2012-03-14T04:07:01","modified_gmt":"2012-03-14T09:07:01","slug":"cross-over-the-hill-offers-program-faq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2012\/03\/14\/cross-over-the-hill-offers-program-faq\/","title":{"rendered":"Cross Over the Hill offers program FAQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Information submitted<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As warm weather accelerates the progress of construction on Van Wert&#8217;s new elementary school building, so also is the activity speeding up at that beautiful brick home which sits just in front of the new school building along State Route 118.\u00a0 As the school year begins this fall, that home will house the first Release Time Bible Classes to be offered to Van Wert Elementary School children.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18297\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Cross-Over-The-Hill-location-12-2011.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18297 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Cross-Over-The-Hill-location-12-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Cross Over The Hill location near the new Van Wert Elementary School (photo submitted)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An attractive sign clearly alerts passers-by that Cross Over The Hill has taken up residence there, and volunteer workers are faithfully laboring to prepare the facility to provide a comfortable learning environment for the over 750 children who will enter the halls of their new elementary school home.<\/p>\n<p>With parents&#8217; signed permission, every one of those children will be treated one hour a week\u00a0to sound Bible lessons by a skilled and knowledgeable Bible teacher uniquely prepared for this ministry.<\/p>\n<p>To more effectively\u00a0provide area residents with a greater understanding of this new ministry, Cross Over The Hill is offering the following answers to the most frequently asked questions:<\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 What Bible version will be used in the classes?<\/p>\n<p>Answer: The curriculum utilizes the King James Version for the Biblical text of all lessons.\u00a0 For greater ease in working with children, Cross Over the Hill will have a supply of readable New King James Version Bibles on hand in classrooms for use by the students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 What are &#8220;Release Time Bible Classes&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 According to both federal and Ohio law, students are allowed to be &#8220;released&#8221; from class time for one hour per week of off-campus Bible instruction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 Do Release Time\u00a0classes interfere with the student&#8217;s regular curriculum?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 No.\u00a0The classroom teachers work their individual classroom schedules to allow for Bible classes.\u00a0 Cross Over The Hill school relations&#8217; personnel are currently working with classroom teachers and elementary\u00a0principals to effect an orderly and stress-free transition to this\u00a0new program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 What denomination sponsors these classes?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 The classes are non-denominational in scope.\u00a0Cross Over the Hill is using an excellent, foundational\u00a0Biblical curriculum developed for children by New Tribes Mission.\u00a0This is not a &#8220;church-based&#8221; program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 How do children get to and from the facility?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0They are escorted to and from the facility by two adult volunteers for each class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0What does my child do if I don&#8217;t want him\/her to attend\u00a0Release Time Bible classes?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 The\u00a0classroom teacher stays with any children who choose not to go to Bible classes, and has activities for them to do until the\u00a0other children return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 How much does Release Time Bible classes cost my child?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 Release\u00a0Time Bible Classes are funded by donations so that there is no cost to any parent or child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 We regularly attend church.\u00a0Why do my children need this program also?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0This is a valuable opportunity to reinforce basic Bible education for all young people, in order to build future leaders for our churches and community, and to instill principles of character, integrity, and respect for others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 What happens when school is closed or delayed\u00a0due to weather, or the school schedule is altered with parent\/teacher conferences or testing schedules?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 When there is an interruption of the normal school day program, or when weather delays or cancellations may occur, Release Time Bible classes are cancelled for the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question<\/strong>:\u00a0 How are the teachers chosen?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0Our Spiritual\/Curriculum Committee and Executive Committee will receive applications, screen candidates, and perform background checks, etc., for all prospective teachers consistent with the policies followed by the Van Wert City Schools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong> Are parents allowed to sit in and observe Release Time Bible\u00a0classes?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 Any parent\/guardian is welcome to sit in and observe classroom activity, completely unannounced, at any time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong> Why will the curriculum chosen for Cross Over The Hill emphasize the Biblical account of creation, when our children have been learning that the theory of evolution is science&#8217;s answer to the question of origins, and the &#8220;Big Bang&#8221; and other explanations of the beginnings of the cosmos so pervade the teachings in the regular school curriculum?<\/p>\n<p>Answer:\u00a0 The purpose of the\u00a0curriculum, which is titled\u00a0Building On Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ, is to\u00a0truthfully and clearly present the nature and character of God the Creator, and His message of personal salvation as He has progressively revealed these truths to us through His Word, The Bible.<\/p>\n<p>There was only one Eyewitness to Creation, God the Creator, and there is only one true eyewitness\u00a0account of Creation,\u00a0the first two chapters of the Book of Genesis, the first\u00a0Book of the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Both Moses, the human author of Genesis, the Psalmist David, Job, the Apostles Peter, Paul, and John, and other Biblical writers, and Jesus Christ Himself taught and reinforced the Genesis account of Creation of both the cosmos, all plant and animal life, and mankind himself.<\/p>\n<p>Cross Over the Hill must declare\u00a0to the precious children who enter its building these Biblical truths.
