(Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Wassenberg Camera Club held its monthly competition in prints and slides Thursday, March 8, at the Wassenberg Art Center.\u00a0 Doors\/Windows was the competition theme. Vice President Will Hawkins, Van Wert took first place in prints with a unique shot of\u00a0one of the windows in the\u00a0Presbyterian church. Will set his camera on a tripod and\u00a0changed the setting on his zoom lens while the\u00a0shutter was open\u00a0to get the special effect. President Doug Heckler took first place honors in slides with a picture of one of\u00a0the windows in the building at the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets across from Fountain Park.\u00a0 L.V. Hollis&#8217;s picture of a farmhouse window and view in Cades Cove, which is part of the Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee, emerged the victor from a three-way tie for second.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Treasurer Karl Gribler distributed the club&#8217;s new Discount Cards and<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21948\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21948\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Heckler-1-slide.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21948 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Heckler-1-slide.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21948\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corner of Main &amp; Jefferson, Van Wert, photo by Doug Heckler. Karl emphasized that the cards are only $5 and are good at 20 area businesses in Van Wert and 5 other nearby cities. The cards are good until April 1, 2013\u00a0and offer either for free, or discounts, on such items as meals, sandwiches, pizza, drinks, ice cream, baked goods,\u00a0nachos, and painting services.<\/p>\n<p>Cards may be obtained from\u00a0Wassenberg Camera Club members or the Wassenberg Art Center. Those wishing more information about the cards may call the club&#8217;s secretary, Rex Dolby, at\u00a0419.238.4545, or the Wassenberg Art Center at 419.238.6837.<\/p>\n<p>In other business, Heckler asked members to bring ideas to the next meeting for competition themes for the Fair Board&#8217;s photography exhibit this fall. Doug also reported that he&#8217;d try to have specs ready for discussion at the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The club gratefully received\u00a0a huge gift from Helen Jewett\u00a0of Van Wert\u00a0of photography equipment\u00a0that\u00a0had been\u00a0used by her husband Hal, and\u00a0also\u00a0a Kodak Vigilant Jr. 620 camera given by Bob\u00a0and Sue Gates.\u00a0 More information about these\u00a0gifts will be given in a later article.<\/p>\n<p>The club welcomed former members\u00a0Jeff and Terry Dietsch to the meeting.\u00a0The club&#8217;s next meeting will be held Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. The public is invited to bring their photography questions to the meeting, as well as hear about other club topics.<\/p>\n<p>You may contact the Wassenberg Art Center at 419.238.6837, by email \u00a0<a href=\"mailto:admin@wassenbergartcenter.org\">admin@wassenbergartcenter.org<\/a> or visit the website at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wassenbergartcenter.org\/\">wassenbergartcenter.org<\/a>.
