{"id":2234,"date":"2011-01-31T03:57:37","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T08:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=2234"},"modified":"2011-01-31T04:12:22","modified_gmt":"2011-01-31T09:12:22","slug":"hirschy-joins-100-wrestling-wins-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/01\/31\/hirschy-joins-100-wrestling-wins-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Hirschy joins 100 wrestling wins list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Van Wert independent sports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now there are 10 Van Wert High School wrestlers in the elite group previously made up of Brad Russell, Jason Roush, Adam Sinning, Brandon Kline, Zach Sully, Joe Quevedo, Rod McGough, Ben Collins, and Connor Massillo.\u00a0 Cory Hirschy, a senior\u00a0wrestling in the 189-pound weight class, scored his 100th win in the match against Trotwood Madison at the Middletown Dual Tourney this past Saturday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_629\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-629\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-629\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/?attachment_id=629\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-629  \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/VW-wrestlers-at-Dayton-tourney-12-2010-Hirschy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"324\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-629\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cory Hirschy wrestles at a tournament in Dayton. (independent file photo by Mona Massillo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hirschy&#8217;s freshman year ended with\u00a016-15 season record.\u00a0 He placed fifth at the Lincolnview Invitational, and fifth in the sectional tournament at\u00a0160 pounds, so he was a\u00a0district alternate.\u00a0 He had\u00a028 takedowns and\u00a010 falls.<\/p>\n<p>Hirschy&#8217;s sophomore year record was\u00a027 wins, 14 losses.\u00a0 He came in third at Hamilton Township and\u00a0fifth at the Oak Harbor tournament.\u00a0He was\u00a0the Dublin Scioto runner-up, and the WBL tournament champion in the 171-pound weight class.\u00a0 He was\u00a0the sectional runner-up and\u00a0a Northwest District II qualifier.\u00a0He was a Lima Area Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star wrestler, and finished the season with\u00a038 takedowns and 19 falls.<\/p>\n<p>The junior year record for Hirschy\u00a0was 27-15.\u00a0 He came in third place at Hamilton Township and placed\u00a0eighth at the Greater Miami Valley wrestling tournament.\u00a0He was fifth at the Dublin Scioto tournament, and fourth at 189 pounds in the WBL tournament.\u00a0He placed third in the sectional tournament and was a Northwest District II qualifier.\u00a0He finished the season with 56 takedowns and 17 falls.\u00a0He won the Pin Pride award as he was never pinned that season.<\/p>\n<p>So far this year, Hirschy has won 31 matches and lost 6, with 23 falls.\u00a0He was the runner-up at Hamilton Township and runner-up at Clinton-Massie.\u00a0He placed fifth at the Greater Miami Valley wrestling tournament and finished fourth at Dublin Scioto.\u00a0He went 4-1 at Fairborn and was 5-0 at the Middletown Dual tournament.\u00a0He is undefeated against WBL opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Hirschy\u2019s overall record is now 101-50.\u00a0 He has been wrestling since he was 6 years old\u00a0and\u00a0participated in Van Wert&#8217;s youth wrestling program.\u00a0He competed in several youth tournaments and learned\u00a0by watching his two older brothers (Chad 2001-2004 and Craig 2004-2007).
