busy at the Niswonger

You may look at the NPAC schedule and think we have some time off since the next concert isn’t until April 28 with Livingston Taylor and the Voices of Unity Choir. Well, you would be wrong. Even though we don’t have a scheduled concert for another four weeks, there is plenty of action going on at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.

For instance, this week is the very popular Ohio Has Talent, which is sponsored by Community Health Professionals. What started as a fund raiser (and still is), has actually morphed into quite an event. It attracts some very talented people who perform for an audience who actually gets to select the winner. It always seems to be a fun time and it supports a very good cause. Tickets for this 7 p.m. event can be purchased at the NPAC box office in advance or at the door this Saturday.

Another event that is happening in the First Federal Lecture Hall this Saturday is the Rotary District 6600 Four-Way Test Speech Contest. High school students from Lorain to Oberlin to Van Wert will be speaking on the subject of the Rotary Four-Way Test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? These are four principals that would be good for all of us to live by.

The contest begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall and the public is invited to observe. There is no admission charge. I have found it to be very inspirational at times as some students really hone their speaking skills. It’s a great experience. Bob Laing, a senior at Van Wert High School is representing our local Rotary club.

On Tuesday, April 2, Mrs. Woirol, the Spanish teacher at Lincolnview High School, is bringing the Justo Lamas band in for a concert for area students studying the Spanish language. The NPAC provides a perfect setting for this regional school event.

This Easter, which is just around the corner, Life House Church is renting the NPAC for Easter services for those who do not have a church family. It is open to the entire public.

And I know many of you are looking forward to the Van Wert High School production of Beauty and the Beast, which will be held in the NPAC April 19-21, three big nights! Mrs. Michelle Stoller and the students have been working for months and I am sure will have a wonderful performance ready for the public to enjoy.

All in all, there are 35 school events happening at the NPAC in the month of April and an additional eight performing arts events. So, if you think we have some time off … think again. And many of these events are open for you to enjoy!

Okay, watch the news closely! The Fountain Park Summer Music Series will be announced any day. The last concert just got confirmed and we are just about ready to go. I think we could have actually started our outdoor concerts this month, given the beautiful weather we have enjoyed. Let’s hope we don’t pay for it later!

FINÉ.

You may look at the NPAC schedule and think we have some time
