{"id":22733,"date":"2012-04-03T22:11:56","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T03:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=22733"},"modified":"2012-04-03T22:11:56","modified_gmt":"2012-04-04T03:11:56","slug":"where-is-all-the-easter-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2012\/04\/03\/where-is-all-the-easter-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Where is all the Easter music?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At Christmas time, we are inundated with Christmas songs on the radio, the supermarkets, the mall, even walking downtown.\u00a0 There seems to be so much Christmas music that we start hearing it well before Thanksgiving.\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong, I enjoy Christmas music and I am glad we have so much of it, but it does make me pause for a moment to wonder where all the Easter music is.\u00a0 After all, aren\u2019t Christmas and Easter a little related?<\/p>\n<p>Wouldn\u2019t it be nice to hear some Easter music being played as we make our way through this Holy Week?\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t even mind hearing Irving Berlin\u2019s \u201cEaster Parade\u201d or even \u201cPeter Cottontail\u201d.\u00a0 If we can hear \u201cRudolph the Red nosed Reindeer\u201d and \u201cFrosty the Snowman\u201d, then how about some of these popular Easter songs?\u00a0 I kind of like them!<\/p>\n<p>Can you name many other \u201cpopular\u201d Easter songs?\u00a0 I think there is a void of good Easter songs for whatever reason.\u00a0 We need some good songwriters to come up with some more Easter songs.\u00a0 Then again, maybe there is a void of good songwriters these days too!<\/p>\n<p>The best Easter music I believe comes from the sacred repertoire of songs, such as hymnals and church songbooks.\u00a0 After all, this is what Easter really is all about.\u00a0 Probably the top two of all time would be \u201cChrist, the Lord is Risen Today\u201d and \u201cUp from the Grave He Arose\u201d.\u00a0 There are numerous other great hymns that come to mind and if you attend a church service this Sunday, I hope you hear and get to sing some of them.<\/p>\n<p>There are also some really good contemporary Christian songs that have been written in the past couple decades.\u00a0I guess my point is that we should be hearing this music throughout the season.\u00a0 I understand that as we travel through Holy Week, there is certainly a series of events that lead up to Easter Sunday and much of the music helps lead us through that trip.<\/p>\n<p>I guess we have left Easter up to the churches and have given up Christmas to Secularism.\u00a0 If that is the case, then perhaps it isn\u2019t all that bad that Easter is celebrated in the way that it is;
