{"id":24774,"date":"2012-05-25T05:57:34","date_gmt":"2012-05-25T10:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=24774"},"modified":"2012-05-25T05:57:34","modified_gmt":"2012-05-25T10:57:34","slug":"odot-provides-memorial-day-driving-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2012\/05\/25\/odot-provides-memorial-day-driving-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"ODOT provides Memorial Day driving tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>ODOT information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; For the second year in a row, Memorial Day has ranked second-deadliest out of the top six major holidays on Ohio\u2019s roads.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 2,049 crashes during the 2011 Memorial Day holiday in Ohio, there were 884 injuries and 12 fatalities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/ODOT-logo.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-645\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/ODOT-logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>\u201cNobody wants to see their holiday end in tragedy,\u201d said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. \u201cA few simple, life-saving steps are all it takes to arrive alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ODOT safety experts recommend using the following tips so that motorists can arrive at their destination this holiday weekend safe and on time:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t Tailgate: <\/strong>Leave plenty of room between you and the car in front of you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stay Alert: <\/strong>Avoid distractions, especially in construction zones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Slow Down: <\/strong>Obey reduced speed limits when traveling in construction zones. Remember, fines are doubled in construction zones.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Click It or Ticket<\/em><\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>Memorial Day is the official beginning of the state\u2019s <strong><em>Click It or Ticket <\/em><\/strong>seat belt campaign.
