One Giant Leap for Mankind by Will Hawkins.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

High attendance provided a large number of pictures for competition in Moon\/Stars when the Wassenberg Camera Club met Thursday, June 14, at the Wassenberg Art Center.<\/p>\n

Eight year old Nataley Hattery’s picture of the moon won first place in prints. After a four-way tie breaker vote, \u00a0a print of the full moon by\u00a0Will Hawkins took second.<\/p>\n

Starry Sky by Doug Heckler.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Doug Heckler’s slide of a starry sky won the slide division, while Tracy Sterling’s slide of his granddaughter, Isabel Gilbert, trying to catch the moon was picked for second place.<\/p>\n

Heckler acknowledged receiving a $50 memorial for Bill Sorensen from the Wassenberg Art Center. He said the gift was forwarded to the Honor Flight Program in Bill’s name. Bill’s wife, Jan, said that this program takes veterans to Washington D.C. free of charge and that Bill really appreciated his flight.<\/p>\n

Doug also reported that the club had received an 8mm Bell & Howell projector, film splicer, bulbs, reels and storage cases from the family of Jeff Collins. The equipment had belonged to Jeff’s father.<\/p>\n

Bring me the Moon by Tracy Sterling.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There was a discussion whether there should be ribbons to mark the winning pictures at the October Photography Exhibit. The conclusion was that the majority was in favor of continuing the practice. Jan Sorensen said she’d check pricing from a number of suppliers.<\/p>\n

Med Smith, Will Hawkins, Tracy Sterling and Doug Heckler shared some of the pictures they had taken at the Magee Marsh, near Oak Harbor.<\/p>\n

The club’s next official meeting is July 12, at 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center. Military Equipment\/Patriotic is the competition theme that evening.<\/p>\n

The public is invited to join the camera club meetings to see if the club is something they might like to participate in on a regular basis.
