{"id":26188,"date":"2012-07-04T06:24:20","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T11:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=26188"},"modified":"2012-07-04T06:25:09","modified_gmt":"2012-07-04T11:25:09","slug":"bwc-issues-warning-on-contractors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2012\/07\/04\/bwc-issues-warning-on-contractors\/","title":{"rendered":"BWC issues warning on storm work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>OBWC information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS \u2013 The Ohio Bureau of Workers\u2019 Compensation (BWC) is cautioning homeowners to do their homework before hiring contractors to repair damages caused by recent storms.\u00a0 Businesses offering services like tree removal, and roofing and gutter repair must have workers\u2019 compensation insurance coverage to protect their workers if they are injured on the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are unfortunately some less than reliable contractors who will capitalize on the misfortune of wary homeowners and have not acquired the necessary workers\u2019 compensation coverage,\u201d said BWC Administrator\/CEO Steve Buehrer.\u00a0 \u201cIf a worker is injured repairing a private residence and is not covered by workers\u2019 compensation insurance, the homeowner can be at risk of costly litigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All employers with one or more employees are required to carry workers\u2019 compensation coverage. Independent contractors and subcontractors also must obtain coverage for their employees.
