Kennedy III as interim prosecutor.<\/p>\n<p>An interim prosecutor was needed because Kennedy had announced his retirement, effective June 30, but had also said he planned to continue in that office when his new term begins in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Central Committee, headed by Martin Burchfield, Kennedy&#8217;s law partner and an assistant prosecutor, basically ratified Kennedy&#8217;s request to be appointed as interim prosecutor until his new term begins.<\/p>\n<p>The situation, though, has also revitalized a debate over Ohio legislation that allows &#8220;double-dipping&#8221; &#8212; receiving retirement benefits while still working in the same position &#8212; among appointed Ohio workers and elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>The situation isn&#8217;t even approved by many current public employees, who say those who retire and then seek to be rehired or are re-elected take more than their fair share of state retirement system funds.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, while public employees seeking retire-rehire status must undergo a public hearing on the request, elected officials are exempt from that process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Information submitted The Republican Central Committee recently selected Van Wert County Juvenile Court Judge Kevin Taylor to run for re-election in that position, and also chose retiring County Prosecutor Charles F.
