{"id":27016,"date":"2012-07-26T05:54:11","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T10:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=27016"},"modified":"2012-07-26T05:54:11","modified_gmt":"2012-07-26T10:54:11","slug":"latta-votes-for-fed-auditing-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2012\/07\/26\/latta-votes-for-fed-auditing-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta votes for Fed auditing legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Information submitted<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) voted in favor of House Resolution 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, sponsored by Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas), which would remove current restrictions on how the non-partisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) can audit the Federal Reserve and allow for a complete audit of the Fed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2927\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2927\" style=\"width: 103px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Latta-Robert-election-art.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2927 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Latta-Robert-election-art.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"103\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2927\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">U.S. Rep. Bob Latta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under current law, a full audit by the GAO is prohibited, specifically on agreements with foreign central banks and governments and monetary policy operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2008, the Federal Reserve, an unelected central bank, has lent nearly $16 trillion in a series of bailouts and economic interventions. While its monetary policy decisions affect every American, the Federal Reserve remains unaccountable to the American taxpayers and to Congress,\u201d said Latta.<\/p>\n<p>Monetary policy decisions and agreements with foreign central banks make up the bulk of the Fed\u2019s operations, but are exempt from audit.
