Local award winning artist Sally M. Geething, along with 400 children who registered for this year\u2019s program, helped to create two paintings entitled \u201cDream Big\u201d to coincide with this year\u2019s Summer Reading Program theme.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27546\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27546\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Geething-at-Brumback-Library-8-2012.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27546 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Geething-at-Brumback-Library-8-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Area artist Sally Geething works with a participant of Brumback Library&#039;s Summer Reading Program. (Brumback Library photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As part of her \u201cPaint It Designs\u201d project, Geething sketched each canvas with color, theme, and style (including many small areas of the work to be painted by the program\u2019s participants). Her subject sketches included baseballs, footballs, basketballs and animated characters, as well as teachers, ministers, doctors, etc., that area children dream about becoming in the future.<\/p>\n<p>One at a time, the artists then chose a square on the canvas to paint while Geething offered suggestions, while working outside on the Library\u2019s lawn for several days. In addition, the artist worked with registered Summer Reading participants from the YWCA and Wee Care Learning Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFour hundred children and one teacher,\u201d Geething said, adding, \u201cAfter the project\u2019s completion, I took a two-hour nap. All in all, though, I had lots of fun!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The colorful results provided the children with a wonderful opportunity for self-expression. The two 24-by-30 inch masterpieces are currently being framed and may soon be viewed in the Children\u2019s Department of the Brumback Library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Dream Big paintings will be a wonderful addition to the art collection which currently exists in the Children\u2019s Department,\u201d said Children\u2019s Librarian Ann Kirkendall. \u201cThe children\u2019s enthusiasm and work, along with Sally\u2019s artistic expertise, will long remain a pleasant memory of 2012\u2019s program.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brumback Library information As part of its 97th annual Summer Reading Program, the Brumback Library offered children a myriad of creative programs and exciting activities in June and July.
