The crowd was great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately the weather got us again,\u201d said CVB Executive Director Larry Lee. \u201cFor the second year in a row, our feature band did not get a chance to go on stage; but considering the threatening weather, clearing the grounds was the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27622\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27622\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Rib-Fest-2012-Manley-Meats.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27622 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Rib-Fest-2012-Manley-Meats.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27622\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rib lovers get ready to chow down at Manley Meats during the 2012 Van Wert Rib Fest. (VW independent file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Rib Fest Organizing Committee has already met and begun making plans for an even better 2013 event.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s People\u2019s Choice winners were: First place \u2013 Manley Meats of Decatur, Ind.; second place \u2013 Gibson\u2019s Barnyard BBQ of Convoy; and third place \u2013 Pork Brother\u2019s BBQ from Lima.<\/p>\n<p>Judges this year included Al Saylor, Eric Hurless, Van Wert Municipal Court Judge Jill Leatherman, Ron Burt, and retired Juvenile-Probate Court Judge Rex Fortney.<\/p>\n<p>In the Best Ribs category, the judges selected Manley Meats as the first place winner, followed by JAV\u2019s from Ottawa, and Shigs in Pit of Fort Wayne, Ind.<\/p>\n<p>Best Sauce winners were JAV\u2019s, first place; Timmy\u2019s BBQ of Garrett, Ind., second place; and Manley Meats, third place.<\/p>\n<p>The Rib Fest Committee would also like to thank all its sponsors, including Citizens National Bank, Century Link, Time Warner Cable, Iberdrola Renewables, First Federal Savings and Loan, K &amp; L Ready Mix, First Bank of Berne, Scott Equity Exchange, First Financial Bank, the Walmart Foundation, C &amp; G Distributing, BP Wind Energy, Cooper Farms, Stahl Stoller Meyer Insurance Group, Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Purmort Brothers Insurance, Van Wert Manor, WERT\/WKSD Radio, Store &amp; Haul, Wallace Plumbing.
