Rider was selected as \u201cVolunteer of the Year\u201d by the Ohio State USBC Youth Association on August 11at Monacco\u2019s Catering &amp; Party Center in Columbus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27861\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Betty-Rider-photo-8-2012.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27861 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Betty-Rider-photo-8-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Betty Rider with her &quot;Volunteer of the Year&quot; award. (photo submitted)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rider has been a volunteer for 35 years at Olympic Recreation, and has promoted the sport of bowling and helped coach the area youth bowlers whenever there was a need.\u00a0 She is instrumental in preparing the Pepsi Youth tournament at the league level, all youth leagues, and leading the local association as its current president. She has also held the offices of secretary, treasurer and vice president. Rider has attended the youth coach\u2019s school many times to keep her knowledge up to date and remains coordinator of the Grand Prix Scholarship, which started in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Rider not only keeps busy with local youth, but also with the Van Wert USBC Women\u2019s Bowling Association.\u00a0 She has been the first vice president for the past two years, has served as a director for 22 years, a state delegate or alternate for 23 years, a national delegate or alternate for seven years and has been a league representative for 11 years.<\/p>\n<p>She has also served on the following committees; Youth Bowling, Lane Inspection, Publicity, 50th Anniversary, Legislative, Membership Development, Hall of Fame, Nominating, City Tournament, Ways &amp; Means, BVL, Adopt-A-Family, History, Policy &amp; Procedures, New Beginnings\/Fond Memories &amp; managed the local Seniors Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Rider has been a league president for six years, vice president for three years, secretary for seven years, and treasurer for 10 years.\u00a0 She is also a member of the Van Wert 600 Club, District 1 600 Club director, Buckeye 600 Bowling Club director, Ohio Women\u2019s 700 Bowling Club, Les Dames de 700 Bowling Club Inc., Local Ohio Association President\u2019s Club director, and the Buckeye Bowling Writers.<\/p>\n<p>This surely makes one wonder when she had time to raise a daughter and son, take care of her mother, babysit with her grandchildren and still work full time until her retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The local bowling associations congratulate her on this award and are very proud to call her one of their own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Information submitted COLUMBUS &#8212; The Van Wert United States Bowling Congress Youth and Van Wert USBC Women\u2019s Bowling associations are proud to announce that Betty J.
