DreamWorks Theatricals and NETworks Presentations LLC.<\/strong> are pleased to announce that Shrek the Musical<\/em>,<\/strong> with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, will play the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio in Van Wert for two shows on Saturday, December 22.<\/p>\n

An entirely new musical which opened on Broadway in December 2009, Shrek the Musical<\/em> is based on the story and characters from William Steig\u2019s book Shrek!<\/em>, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek<\/em>, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Shrek the Musical<\/em> tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wisecracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren\u2019t only found in fairy tales.<\/p>\n

The role of everyone\u2019s favorite swamp-dwelling ogre, Shrek, will be played by Perry Sook.\u00a0Whitney Winfield will play the feisty Princess Fiona.\u00a0 Jeremy Gaston is Shrek\u2019s lovably annoying best friend Donkey and Christian Marriner plays the vertically challenged villain Lord Farquaad.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the cast of misfit fairy tale characters, the peoples of Duloc and Far, Far Away are: Matty Burns, Micah Cowher, Courtney Daniels, Megan Elyse Fulmer, Susan Leilani Gearou, Francesca Granell, Tony Johnson, Brody Karn, Jennifer Margulis, Alison McCartan, Michael McCrary, Schuyler Midgett, Tiffani Robbins, Robert Teasdale, Katie Tompkins, Maggie Tompkins, Kristopher Stanley Ward, Andy White and Jeffrey Zicker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to send Shrek the Musical<\/em> to theaters across the country,\u201d said Bill Damaschke, president of DreamWorks Theatricals, \u201cand for American families to experience their favorite ogre and fairy tale creatures live on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shrek the Musical<\/em> features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize\u00ae<\/sup> winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Good People<\/em>), music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change<\/em>).\u00a0 Shrek the Musical<\/em> is directed by Stephen Sposito, who recently served as associate director of the current Broadway revival, How To Succeed In Business,<\/em> starring Daniel Radcliff.\u00a0 Sets and costumes are based on the Tony Award\u00ae<\/sup> winner designs by Tim Hatley (Private Lives, Spamalot<\/em>) and Chris Bailey will recreate the originalow To Succeed In Business<\/em> starddd choreography by Josh Prince (The Bridge Project, The Jerry Springer Opera).<\/em><\/p>\n

Shrek the Musical<\/em> was initiated when Sam Mendes, a big fan of the first Shrek film, suggested the idea of creating a musical to DreamWorks Animation\u2019s Jeffrey Katzenberg around the time the second film was in production. The musical is produced by NETworks Presentations LLC.<\/p>\n

Shrek the Musical<\/em> <\/strong>will play two shows on December 22, at 2 and 7 p.m., at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.
