Owens said that a new link has been added to the menu of the Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s website regarding snow emergencies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2975\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2975\" style=\"width: 125px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Owens-Sheriff-Stan-2-2011.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2975 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Owens-Sheriff-Stan-2-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2975\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sheriff Stan Owens<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>County residents will now be able to go online to <a href=\"http:\/\/vanwertcountysheriff.com\">http:\/\/vanwertcountysheriff.com<\/a> to ascertain if a snow emergency has been enacted for the county, and also when an emergency is lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Owens also noted that his department does not use the \u201cthree level\u201d system due to the confusion it creates with the general public. \u201cSeveral of our residents work in Indiana, whose snow levels are just the opposite of Ohio\u2019s level system,\u201d Sheriff Owens added. \u201cWe have found that the public confusion created by using levels is not acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When a snow emergency is declared in Van Wert County, it means roads are, or are becoming, impassable and that snowplows are pulling off the roadways due to white-out conditions and weather elements present a possible life-threatening condition for stranded motorists.<\/p>\n<p>A snow emergency is left in place and not lifted until snow removal equipment has had a chance to clear roadways. Sheriff Owens consults with County Engineer Kyle Wendel and his staff on road conditions, as well as relies on reports from his department\u2019s patrol units in deciding how long a snow emergency will remain in effect.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheriff\u2019s Department information Van Wert County Sheriff Stan D.
