(Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 23<sup>rd<\/sup> Annual Artists\u2019 Exhibit and Sale is up and running and we are pleased to announce the award winners. The winner of the Mary McVay Worthington Memorial Award is Carole Macklin of Decatur, Ind.. for her reductive woodcut print, \u201cThe Family.\u201d The<strong> <\/strong>Van Wert County Foundation Award went to Carolyn Stachera of Fort Wayne, Ind., for her oil painting \u201cAllen County Morning.\u201d The Douglas Koch Memorial Award was awarded to David Schumm of Bryan for his acrylic painting \u201cSan Antonio Nights.\u201d William John Jr. of Lima received the Director\u2019s Award for his painting of \u201cSecretariat\u201d and the Gertrude Sluterbeck Memorial Award was given to Pat Pancake of Van Wert for her mixed media piece, \u201cThe Glass Vase.\u201d<strong> <\/strong>Erin McMillan of Van Wert, won the Clyde O\u2019Dillon Wallace Memorial Award with her hand-blown glass piece, \u201cBubblesflower.\u201d The Van Wert County Hospital Sponsor Award went to Carolyn Stachera for \u201cEagle Marsh.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32078\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32078\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/AllenCountyMornHR.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32078 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/AllenCountyMornHR.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cAllen County Morning\u201d by Carolyn Stachera of Fort Wayne, Ind. (Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Four Merit Awards were presented in the following order First Place: Pat Rayman of Ohio City for \u201cJust Before Dark;\u201d Second Place: Carolyn Stachera, \u201cQuiet Morning;\u201d Third Place to Christelle Bowerman of Lima for \u201cDowntown Corner\u201d and Fourth Place also went to Bowerman for \u201cParticle Strikes with Planetary Loop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Honorable Mentions went to Ralph Stuckman of Celina, Ursula Thiel of Angola, Ind., Kim Purmort of Van Wert, Kay Sluterbeck of Van Wert, Pat Rayman, Carole Macklin, Elgarda McGee of Van Wert and Pete Temple of Celina.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32080\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/SanAntonioNightsHR1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32080 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/SanAntonioNightsHR1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32080\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"> \u201cSan Antonio Nights,\u201d acrylic, by David Schumm of Bryan. (Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We wish to thank and congratulate all of our artist members who submitted their work for this exhibit, which is our largest show with over 260 pieces entered. Stop by and shop for a special gift this season, hand-crafted by some of our regions finest. This exhibit, which runs through Dec. 15, is kindly brought to you by the Van Wert County Hospital. Shopping hours are Tuesdays through Sundays 1-5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>We are extending our popular morning Classic Watercolor class to the first three Tuesdays in December! If you would like to sign up for this continuation, give us a call. From the amount of giggling and lively conversation it sounds and looks like these people are having a great time!<\/p>\n<p>We hope to see you during the YWCA Holiday Home Tour this weekend, Nov. 30, 5-9 p.m. and Dec. 1, 9-1 p.m. This building, our current location, is the original home of our benefactor, Charles Wassenberg.\u00a0 This may be one of the last times people can tour the house before we move to the Van Wert Armory sometime in 2013. We will serve light refreshments and feature a video and literature of the proposed updates to the Armory.
