The Air Jam is an assembly that is held during homecoming week that allows students to perform, either by themselves or in groups, lip-syncing to a song of their choice. This is usually the most anticipated assembly of the year, and everyone looks forward to it. Previous winning songs include “I Got You Babe” and “Video Killed the Radio Star.” In order for the Air Jam to be held this year, there will need to be at least five different groups that want to perform. Students are encouraged to sign up with Mrs. Sawmiller by Dec. 19 and start practicing.

For the second year in a row, the boys’ varsity basketball team has won the Van Wert County Hospital Tip-Off Tournament. To start off, the boys beat Van Wert 50-43 on Friday, then turned around and beat Wayne Trace 60-40 in the championship game on Saturday night. “It was pretty exciting to win the tournament for the second straight year. I think we all expected to win if we played how we could, so we will just take this momentum with us throughout the season,” said senior Alec Heffner.

Along with the varsity, the JV team participated in the tournament which was located at Lincolnview High School. The boys fell to Van Wert in the first game, by a score of 50-53 in double overtime. The Knights then faced the Lancers on Monday, and won by a score of 55-47, capturing third place.

Knights Rebound From Thanksgiving Break

Tyson Bolenbaugh defends Alec Heffner during a one on one drill during practice. Along with a break from school, this week long hiatus jump started the high school basketball season.

To start of the break, parent teacher conferences were held on Nov. 19 and 20. These conferences are held to bring in students along with their parents to show the parents what exactly is going on inside the classroom. Also, there are some teachers that offer extra credit if students bring their parents in. “I brought my mom in to Mrs. Brown’s parent teacher conference because it gave me some extra credit. If it wasn’t for extra credit, I probably wouldn’t’ have come,” said senior Jake Harmon.

On the second Friday of the break, the girls’ basketball team opened up their season with the McDonald’s Tip-Off against Wayne Trace, in which they were victorious with a score of 58-34. Sophomore Mackenzie Riggenbach said, “We were all very excited to start the season this year. We are a young team so we were very eager to see what we could do.” With the win, the Lady Knights faced Ottoville in the championship, falling 34-30. When asked about the start of the season, Coach Rickard said, “I was very pleased with the girls. Beating Wayne Trace and playing with one of the best teams around in Ottovile, the team could have some potential over the season.”

Over the Thanksgiving break, Coach Best and the boys’ basketball team were preparing themselves for their season opener against Van Wert, in the VW County Hospital Tip-Off. “We have been working very hard, with the practices and scrimmages. I think that if we can do our job and play like we know how, we will be just fine at the Tip-Off, and for the rest of the season,” said senior starter Alec Heffner.

By Trevor Roop After taking a break from the Air Jam last year, CHS is excited to bring it back in January.
