United Way of Van Wert County distributes the free FamilyWize drug discount card.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one should be forced to choose between paying for food, rent, or medicine because of the high cost of prescriptions,\u201d said United Way Executive Director Deb Russell. \u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019ve partnered with FamilyWize to distribute free prescription discount cards to everyone in Van Wert County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/FamilyWize-prescription-card-12-2012.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-33159\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/FamilyWize-prescription-card-12-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a>Distributed through individual United Way organizations, the FamilyWize card lowers the cost of medicine by an average of 35 percent or more for people without insurance or who take medications not covered by their plan. It\u2019s easy. It\u2019s just like a coupon people can keep using every time they need to fill a prescription. All people have to do is present a FamilyWize card at a local pharmacy to get the savings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FamilyWize card provides immediate savings on prescription medicines with no paperwork or forms to fill out,\u201d said Dan Barnes, co-chair of The FamilyWize Community Service Partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The cards can be used by everyone in the community, not just people without insurance. They can even be used by people with health benefits, including Medicaid or Medicare.<\/p>\n<p>The FamilyWize card is easy to use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s free<\/li>\n<li>For immediate and unlimited use<\/li>\n<li>Anyone can use the FamilyWize card<\/li>\n<li>Accepted at 95 percent of pharmacies nationwide<\/li>\n<li>No enrollment or personal information needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A total of 1,000 United Ways in all 50 states have helped people save $420 million on prescriptions in their communities since October 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The previous cards are set to expire as of Monday, December 31, but there will be plenty of cards at the United Way office. On January 2, 2013, area residents can call the United Way office at 419.238.6689 or stop in at the office at 1151 Westwood Drive and pick up a card.
