ROCKY McVAIGH\/<\/strong>for Van Wert independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n

On Saturday, January 5, the YMCA Marlins hosted the Lima and Wapakoneta YMCAs at the Van Wert YMCA.\u00a0 The visiting teams brought 120 swimmers to the meet to compete against Van Wert\u2019s 19 athletes.<\/p>\n

The boys lost to both Wapakoneta and Lima, while the girls beat Wapak and lost to Lima. Although they were outnumbered, Van Wert did have several highlights. In 10 & Under Girls, Emma Pollock took first in the 100-meter individual medley, 50-meter butterfly and the 100-meter freestyle.\u00a0 In 11-12 Girls, Katie McVaigh was first in the 100-meter IM and 50-meter backstroke and third in the 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.<\/p>\n

Aaron Stant placed in all of his events, taking first in the 50-meter butterfly and second in the 200-meter and 100-meter freestyle races and in the 50-meter backstroke.<\/p>\n

In the 13-14 age division, Bethany Fast placed in all of her events (first in the 50-meter freestyle; second in the 200-meter freestyle; third in the 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter breaststroke), as did Sam Easley (first 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke; second in the 200-meter freestyle).<\/p>\n

Also securing first place finishes were Tyra McClain in Girls\u2019 8 & Under 25-meter butterfly and Colton Deschner in Boys\u2019 13-14 200-meter IM.<\/p>\n

In relay action the Boys\u2019 13-14 200-meter medley team (Easley, Deschner, Stant, and Dylan Neate) finished second.\u00a0 The Girls\u2019 10 & Under 200-meter freestyle team (Tyra McClain, Rachel Spath, Gracie Mull, Jamie Burenga) placed second as well.\u00a0 The complete results are listed below.<\/p>\n
