The Cougars are now 9-8 overall, while Lima is 7-9 on the year.<\/p>\n<p>AJ Smith led all scorers with 22 points, while Kyle Keber added 18 points and Connor Holliday scored 12 points for Van Wert. But the Spartans countered with a balanced offense that included five players in double figures, led by Rueben Flowers\u2019 16 points. Rico Stafford had 14 points, while Damariante Dillingham, Devin Allen and Isaiah Simpson all scored 10 points for Lima.<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans took a three-point lead, 12-9, in the first quarter, but Van Wert outscored Lima 15-9 in the second stanza to lead by three, 24-21, at the half. It was the third quarter that really hurt the Cougars, though, as Lima went on a 25-15 tear that included a 10-0 run to go up by seven points, 46-39, heading into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams had 23 points in the final stanza and the Spartans outlasted Van Wert for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars were 13 of 32 from two-point range (40.6 percent), but hit 8 of 16 from three-point range (50 percent) for a 43.8 overall field goal percentage. Lima Senior made 24 of 42 two-point attempts (57.1 percent) and was 3 of 10 from three-point range (30 percent) for a 51.9 overall field goal percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Van Wert canned 12 of 15 free throw attempts (80 percent), while the Spartans were 12 of 16 (75 percent) at the line.<\/p>\n<p>Lima Senior outrebounded the Cougars, 28-22, and also had the edge in turnovers, 8-10.<\/p>\n<p>Van Wert\u2019s junior varsity team continued its winning ways with a 59-29 victory over the Spartan JVs. Nathan Krugh led all scorers with 10 points.
