{"id":35033,"date":"2013-02-16T08:57:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-16T13:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=35033"},"modified":"2013-02-16T08:57:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-16T13:57:41","slug":"latta-bill-would-assist-auto-dealers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/02\/16\/latta-bill-would-assist-auto-dealers\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta bill would assist auto dealers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Information submitted<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212; On Thursday, U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), along with Representative Gary Peters (D-Mich.), introduced legislation that would repeal a duplicative mandate that requires auto dealers to certify if a new vehicle has an emissions system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bipartisan effort to eliminate outdated and duplicative regulations will relieve auto dealers from unnecessary red tape they must deal with on a daily basis. This redundant paperwork requirement is from an outdated law that has been superseded by modern technology and standard vehicle warranties. Small business owners are already compliant with the law and the only impact of this unnecessary paperwork requirement is increased costs for auto dealers and consumers,\u201d said Congressman Latta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepealing laws that burden small business with no discernible benefit to consumers is something both parties should agree on,\u201d added David Westcott, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). \u201cI commend Reps. Latta and Peters for their effort to repeal this obsolete mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the current regulation, the Clean Air Act requires dealers to present the buyer with written confirmation that a visual inspection has been completed of a new-vehicle\u2019s emissions system, however documentation certifying compliance can already be found under the hood or on the Internet.
