Students at Lincolnview are preparing to take part in \u201cRead the Most from Coast to Coast,\u201d on Friday, March 1. \u201cRead the Most from Coast to Coast,\u201d a national reading event that began last school-year, challenges students to join together to break the record for the number of Accelerated Reader Quizzes taken in one day. The record they will attempt to top, set last school year, is 3,581,992 quizzes.<\/p>\n

Accelerated Reader, a reading management software program for K12 schools, helps educators monitor and manage students\u2019 personalized reading practice. \u201cStudents read a book at the appropriate level and then take a quiz on a computer, said Deb Stetler, Media Specialist. \u201cThe quiz assesses general comprehension of the book. Accelerated Reader scores the quiz, monitors results, generates reports, and provides a platform to manage individual reading practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRead the Most from Coast to Coast\u201d enables students to take part in a shared reading adventure, and, at the same time, show the world they understood what they\u2019ve read. All students who take part in this nationwide challenge will be eligible to receive a Certificate of National Participation.
\nOn March 1, educators, parents, and other interested community members will be able to see the progress toward the national goal tracked in real time at www.renlearn\/readthemost.com.<\/p>\n

Lincolnview Elementary is preparing for the visit of author\/illustrator David Catrow on Friday, March 8. Hallways are being decorated and books are ordered in anticipation of his visit. There is also a Family Movie Day planned for Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in the Elementary Cafeteria. The Dr. Seuss based movie, \u201cHorton Hears a Who,\u201d<\/span> will be viewed in conjunction with Read Across America Week and Right to Read Week. David Catrow also worked on the artwork for this movie.<\/p>\n
