Ohio Department of Transportation news<\/em><\/p>\n

LIMA — <\/strong>Area residents\u2019 tax dollars will be hard at work as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) launches one of the largest, most aggressive construction seasons to date, with projects totaling approximately $2.3 billion. ODOT will begin or continue construction of nearly 1,000 projects statewide, including the reconstruction of Interstate 75 in Allen County.<\/p>\n

The reconstruction of Interstate 75 through Lima and Allen County began last year with the replacement of two bridges over the interstate at Reservoir Road and Fourth Street. The project continues this year as the reconstruction of the existing lanes of the interstate between Fourth Street and Ohio 81 is now underway. The project includes the reconstruction of the interchanges at Fourth Street, Ohio 117\/309 and Ohio 81, and a safety upgrade on Ohio 117\/309 from the Interstate 75 interchange to the Allen County fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cInvesting in our state\u2019s transportation system is vital to our economy and to job creation,\u201d said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. \u201cWe work hard to establish and maintain an efficient, effective transportation system that gets people and goods where they want to go in a timely and safe manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

ODOT\u2019s robust construction schedule consists of an impressive 996 projects, which could total as much as $2.3 billion.\u00a0 ODOT will begin or continue work on 10 mega projects, each totaling more than $50 million.<\/p>\n

New work will begin late this year on the eastbound Innerbelt Bridge in Cleveland, which is the largest, most expensive mega project in Ohio totaling approximately $330 million. That amount also includes the demolition of the current, aging Innerbelt Bridge in downtown Cleveland.<\/p>\n

Van Wert County projects include resurfacing a portion of U.S. 127, from U.S. 224 to the south corporation limit of Paulding; resurfacing Ohio 49 within the village of Convoy, replacing a bridge deck of Town Creek south of Van Wert, and the reconstruction of West Main Street in Van Wert, from Shannon Street to Fisher Avenue.<\/p>\n
