\"\"<\/a>After a big spike back in January, area unemployment figures from March are continuing a gradual decrease begun in February of this year, according to figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.<\/p>\n

For Van Wert County, unemployment fell to 7.4 percent in March, down fourth-tenths of a percent from an adjusted unemployment rate of 7.8 in February. Unemployment in the county was 7.9 percent a year ago in March.<\/p>\n

The county figures provided by the ODJFS are somewhat troubling, since they show a decrease both in the county\u2019s workforce numbers, as well as the number of county residents who were reportedly employed in March. The county\u2019s workforce estimates showed a drop of 200 people, from 13,700 people in February to 13,500 in March, while the number of people employed decreased from 12,600 to 12,500 over a month\u2019s time. The number of unemployed county residents stayed constant at 1,000.<\/p>\n

Among neighboring counties, Mercer County was again the lowest here, as well as in the state, at 4.6 percent, down from 4.9 percent in February. Auglaize County was next with a jobless rate of 5.4 percent, down from 5.8 percent in February, while Putnam County\u2019s March jobless rate was 6.6 percent, down from 7.1 percent in February. Paulding County\u2019s unemployment rate was at 7.0 percent, down from 7.6 percent in February, while Allen County again had the highest unemployment rate among neighboring counties at 8.0 percent, a decrease of a half-percent from February\u2019s jobless rate of 8.5 percent.<\/p>\n

Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 85 of 88 counties, ranging from Mercer County\u2019s low of 4.6 percent up to 13.4 percent in Pike County (click here<\/a><\/strong> for civilian labor force estimates for all 88 counties and significant metropolitan areas). The state\u2019s comparable unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in March.<\/p>\n

Along with Mercer, counties with unemployment rates under 6.0 percent included Delaware (4.9 percent), Holmes (5.1 percent), Auglaize, Union (5.7 percent), and Hancock (5.8 percent). In addition to Pike County, counties with unemployment rates above 11.0 percent in March included Morgan (12.3 percent), Meigs (12.2 percent), Huron (12.1 percent), Adams (12.0 percent), Ottawa (11.9 percent), Vinton (11.6 percent) and Scioto (11.2 percent).<\/p>\n

April 2013 unemployment rates and nonagricultural wage and salary data for Ohio will be released by the ODJFS on Friday, May 17, while unemployment rates for counties, cities and metropolitan areas will be available on Tuesday, May 21.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
