{"id":37709,"date":"2013-04-25T05:57:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T10:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=37709"},"modified":"2013-04-25T05:57:39","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T10:57:39","slug":"mccoy-to-speak-on-local-weather-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/04\/25\/mccoy-to-speak-on-local-weather-history\/","title":{"rendered":"McCoy to speak on local weather history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Van Wert Historical Society news<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37710\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37710\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-McCoy-photo-4-2013.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37710 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-McCoy-photo-4-2013.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rick McCoy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m., the Van Wert County Historical Society will welcome Van Wert Office of Homeland Security\/Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy as guest speaker in the Annex as he gives a presentation on the \u201cHistory of Van Wert County Weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCoy is well known for developing the Storm Ready Program in Van Wert County in January 2002 and is credited with saving hundreds of lives when devastating F-4 tornado ravaged the county on November 10, 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Because of his actions, he was the first person in the United States to receive the National Storm Ready Hero&#8217;s Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
