This fraternal year, the theme for the contest was, \u201cWhat does the National Anthem Mean to Me?\u201d Students competed in divisions, by age group. The local winners, which were forwarded to the district for further judging, were:<\/p>\n<p>Division I, grades 5-6<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First place, Griffin Painter \u2013 Crestview School<\/li>\n<li>Second place \u2013 Laney Jones \u2013 Crestview School<\/li>\n<li>Third place \u2013 Chase Forwerck \u2013 Crestview School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Division II, grades 7-8<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First Place \u2013 Tracey West \u2013 Lincolnview Junior High<\/li>\n<li>Second Place \u2013 Bryon Walsh \u2013 Van Wert Middle School<\/li>\n<li>Third Place \u2013 Taylor Doenges \u2013 Lincolnview Junior High<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, none of the students placed in the Northwest District competition.<\/p>\n<p>Van Wert Elks Lodge 1197 would like to congratulate all of its winners and lodge members want to thank all of the students, teachers and schools for their participation in this year\u2019s essay contest.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Stanley was the lodge chairman in charge of the Lodge Americanism Committee.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38840\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/2013-Elks-Americanism-Contest-winners.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38840 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/2013-Elks-Americanism-Contest-winners.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"354\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shown are winners in Division I of the Elks Americanism Essay Contest (front row, from the left) Griffin Painter, Laney Jones and Chase Forwerck: (back row) Division II winners Tracey West, Byron Walsh and Taylor Doenges.
