ROCKY McVAIGH\/<\/strong>for VW independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n

The YMCA Marlins opened their summer swim season on June 10, hosting the Lima Westside Swim Club at the Van Wert YMCA.\u00a0 Van Wert dropped the season opener in a close meet by the score of 392-343.\u00a0 Taking first place honors in all of their individual events were Tyra McClain (4); Emma Pollock (4); Katie McVaigh (3); Sam Easley (4) and Eric Easley (3).<\/p>\n

Also securing first place finishes were Gracie Mull (1); Jaimie Burenga (1); Aaron Stant (2); Anna Henkaline (2); Bethany Fast (1); Colton Deschner (1); Isaac Rager (1) and Kory Schlatter (1).<\/p>\n

The following relay teams finished in first place: Girls 8 & Under 100-meter medley relay (Micah LaTurner, Tyra McClain, Gracie Mull, Laney Hargett); Girls 9-10 200-meter medley (Delaney Keysor, Jamie Burenga,Emma Pollock ,Libby Price); Boys 15\u00a0 & Over 200 Medley (Dane Chiles, Eric Easley, Kory Schlatter, Isaac Rager); Boys 9-10 200-meter freestyle relay (Evan Bowersock, Dane Chiles, Ian Rex, Daniel Miller); Girls 11-12 200-meter freestyle relay (Katie McVaigh, Noelle Heffner, Erin Miller, Risa Pollock); Boys 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay (Aaron Stant, Alek Bowersock, Colton Deschner, Sam Easley) and Boys 15 & Over 200 Free (Kory Schlatter, Isaac Rager, Jacob Keysor, Eric Easley).<\/p>\n

Just a little background about the swim league. Van Wert is a member of the Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL), which has eight members: Wapakoneta Community Pool, Lima Westside Swim Club, Hardin County Swim Club, Ada-Lost Creek Swim Club, Lima Sherwood Swim Club, Bluffton Swim Club and Shawnee Country Club.<\/p>\n

The regular season consists of seven matches of one-on-one meets and culminates with a championship meet in July.\u00a0 Each swimmer is allowed to swim in only five total events per meet. In a regular season meet, the final heat of every event is the only heat that is scored. All other heats are considered non-scoring exhibition matches.\u00a0 At the championship meet all swimmers are seeded by their best event times from the regular season and then scored by their finish.<\/p>\n
