Nelson, 86, of Findlay passed away at 5:53 p.m. Monday, July\u00a08, 2013, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.<\/p>\n<p>He was born December 29, 1926, in Chamberlin, S.D., the son of the late Lawrence A. and Jenny (Liddiard) Nelson. On February 8, 1948, he married Vera Mae Nelson, who preceded him in death on April 23, 2012.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40555\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40555\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Lowell-Nelson-obit-photo-7-2013.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40555 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Lowell-Nelson-obit-photo-7-2013.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40555\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lowell E. Nelson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lowell is survived by four children, Christine (Dan Carter) Nelson of Portland, Ore., Douglas Dean (Cathy) Nelson of Springfield, Ore., James Dale (Jenny) Nelson of Van Wert, and Stephen (Beth) Nelson of Findlay; a daughter-in-law, Karen Nelson of Ashland, Ore.; one brother, Kenneth Nelson of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8711\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"66\" \/><\/a>A son, David Lee Nelson; one brother, Ralph Nelson; and a sister, Irene Dahlen, also preceded him in death.<\/p>\n<p>Lowell served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Corps during\u00a0World War II. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He served and\u00a0retired as a United Methodist Church minister, pastoring at the Minnesota\u00a0Lake, Minn., United Methodist Church, Mount Orab United Methodist Church, Leipsic United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert and Maize Manor United Methodist Church in Columbus. He was a member of St. Mark\u2019s United Methodist Church in Findlay.<\/p>\n<p>Lowell devoted his life to his ministry in the United Methodist Church and considered his wife, Vera, an integral part of his ministry. \u00a0After retirement he was active with the Hancock Christian Clearing House, taught Sunday School and hosted weekly Bible study in his home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, at St. Mark\u2019s United Methodist Church in Findlay, with Pastors Mark Hollinger and Kelly Sterling officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preferred memorials: Asbury Theological Seminary, 204 N Lexington Ave, Wilmore, KY 40390 or the United Methodist Ministers Pension Fund, 1901 Chestnut Ave., Glenview, IL 60025.<\/p>\n<p>Online condolences may be sent to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coldrencrates.com\/\">www.coldrencrates.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lowell E.
