{"id":40653,"date":"2013-07-12T07:10:53","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T12:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=40653"},"modified":"2013-07-12T07:10:53","modified_gmt":"2013-07-12T12:10:53","slug":"chp-conducts-rays-of-hope-day-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/07\/12\/chp-conducts-rays-of-hope-day-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"CHP conducts Rays of Hope day camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Community Health Professionals news<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Community Health Professionals\u2019 Hospice held its annual Rays of Hope day camp June 18-20 for children and youth who have lost a loved one at the Van Wert County YMCA\u2019s Camp Clay and LifeHouse Church in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>About 30 youngsters from Van Wert and surrounding counties participated in opportunities to learn about the process of grief, plus participating in fun activities such as swimming at the Camp Clay Water Park, rock wall climbing, crafts and games.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40654\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40654\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Rays-of-Hope-Day-Camp-7-2013.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40654 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Rays-of-Hope-Day-Camp-7-2013.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants at CHP Hospice Rays of Hope Camp enjoyed a visit from \u201cIke\u201d the therapy dog. (CHP photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cRays of Hope Camp is a time for young people who have experienced loss to learn healthy ways to express their sometimes bottled-up emotions,\u201d said Jeanie Saum, RN, CHP Hospice supervisor. \u201cIt is also a time for them to make friends, have fun and learn they are not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camp activities included Clint Myers of the YMCA presenting information about the cycle of life; Jackie Boyd of Washington Elementary in Bryan with \u201cIke\u201d the therapy dog; and magician Tyler Nygren performing illusions and making balloon animals.<\/p>\n<p>Each day, groups led by hospice social workers took time to discuss feelings and share thoughts and emotions. Each participant created crafts items like teddy bears, memory boxes and tie-dye shirts as ways to remember their loved ones.
