{"id":40953,"date":"2013-07-20T07:07:26","date_gmt":"2013-07-20T12:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=40953"},"modified":"2013-07-20T07:07:26","modified_gmt":"2013-07-20T12:07:26","slug":"latta-votes-for-student-success-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/07\/20\/latta-votes-for-student-success-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta votes for Student Success Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Information submitted<\/i><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013\u00a0U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) voted in favor of House Resolution 5, the Student Success Act, a bill that reforms current K-12 education law to help develop and implement policies, programs, and activities that lead to academic improvements and more accountability on the state level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA one size fits all policy from Washington is not meeting the education needs of our nation\u2019s children,\u201d Latta noted. \u201cWe all agree that every child should have access to a quality education, but our current system is in need of reforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an effort to fix our broken education system, block federal intrusion in academic affairs, and protect parental choice for their child\u2019s education, I voted in favor of the Student Success Act,\u201d Latta added. \u201cParents and teachers within a child\u2019s community know what\u2019s best for that child. This bill will return control and seek accountability to states and local jurisdictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Student Success Act reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), commonly known as No Child Left Behind, through 2019. The bill requires states to develop their own accountability systems and teacher evaluation programs that are tied to student achievement.
