\"Election<\/a>A large number of ballot issues, as well as individual races in the city of Van Wert and a number of villages and townships, will be on the November general election ballot following the filing deadline on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Races in Van Wert center on Van Wert City Council and include a four-person contest for three at-large positions and a two-person race for the Fourth Ward Council seat currently held by Pete Weir, who ran unsuccessfully for City Council president in May.<\/p>\n

The three at-large incumbents, Democrat Jeff Agler and Republicans Stan Agler and Brent Crone, will face off against Republican challenger Jon Tomlinson, who is also a former city councilman.<\/p>\n

In the Fourth Ward race, Democrat Jim Hamman is running against Republican Steve Trittschuh.<\/p>\n

All other candidates for City Council and elected city positions are running unopposed, with two races decided in May when Ken Mengerink eked out a 55-vote win over Weir for the Council president\u2019s seat currently held by Gary Corcoran, who chose not to seek re-election, and Jerry Mazur defeated first-term Third Ward Councilman Stuart Jewett.<\/p>\n

In other races, two villages — Elgin and Convoy — have no candidates for village council or Convoy\u2019s board of public affairs, while eight candidates are seeking four seats on Venedocia Village Council and six are vying for four seats on Ohio City Village Council.<\/p>\n

There are no election races in Delphos, with only one person seeking the city treasurer\u2019s position and Third and Fourth Ward Council seats. No one is running for Allen County Education Service Center, Delphos City Board of Education and Spencerville Local Board of Education in Van Wert County.<\/p>\n

The eight people seeking a Venedocia Village Council position include incumbents Lee Lare, Gloria Leiter and Paul Price are being challenged by Thomas Emery, Matt Eutsler, Linda Lea Fox Collins, Sarah Kimmet and Kimra Rowlett for four council seats, while challengers Glory Agler, Carol Brown, Susan I. Gates and Kent Ransbottom will face off against incumbents Carol R. Miller and Greg Waterman for four Ohio City Village Council seats.<\/p>\n

No races are seen in Middle Point, Scott or Willshire, with four incumbents seeking re-election in Middle Point and Scott and two incumbents, Bryan Hess and Sharon Whitaker, seeking re-election alongside newcomers Matthew Kashner and Lisa Schumm.<\/p>\n

No one filed for a seat on the Willshire Board of Public Affairs.<\/p>\n

Township trustee races include those in Jackson, Hoaglin, Pleasant, Tully and Washington townships, with the biggest race in Jackson Township, where five people — incumbents Eugene Arn and newcomers Scott Deitering, Brittin T. Schaffner, Doug Teman and Roger Wilkin — are running for two trustee positions.<\/p>\n

In Pleasant Township, Gary Ashbaugh, Lou Dickinson and William Harting are seeking one trustee\u2019s position, while incumbents Gregory Germann and Timothy Mengerink are challenged by Brian Schaffner for two other trustee positions.<\/p>\n

In Hoaglin Township, incumbent Milo Schaffner is running against Ricky Ashbaugh and Christopher Webb in a race to fill two trustee positions, while four people, incumbents Tom Gibson and Phil Kreischer, are challenged by Jerry D. Parrish Sr. and Jeff Wise for their trustee positions.<\/p>\n

In Washington Township, incumbents Larry J. Hoersten and Bob Trentman, face opposition from Thomas R. Odenweller and Joe Wittler for their two township trustee positions.<\/p>\n

There is only one school board race, and that is in the Lincolnview Local School District, where Board President Eric Germann is running against Lori Eversole Snyder, Laura L. Fox, Scott Miller and Jody Taylor to fill three school board positions.<\/p>\n

Two people, R.J. Coleman and Scott Mull, have filed for two open seats on Van Wert City Board of Education, while three people, incumbents Lori Bittner and Lonnie Nedderman, and former school board member Wes Skelton have filed for three open seats on the Crestview school board.<\/p>\n

In addition to individual races, there are 20 election issues on the November ballot, with all but two of those money issues. The two non-money issues, which seek to change the terms of Van Wert City Council and Council president from two to four years, will be decided by Van Wert city voters, as will a 1.7-mill, 25-year bond issue seeking to raise $3 million to construct a city aquatics center.<\/p>\n

In Delphos, voters will be asked to increase the city income tax from 1.5 percent to 1.75 percent for general operation.<\/p>\n

School district issues include a 2.5-mill, five-year permanent improvement renewal levy in Lincolnview Local School District and a renewal of Crestview\u2019s 1-percent income tax levy.<\/p>\n

Convoy has two issues on the ballot, both renewals: a 2-mill, five-year fire and EMS issue and a 3-mill, five-year operating levy for the Convoy Tully Park District, which will also be voted on by Tully Township residents.<\/p>\n

Other village and township issues are as follows:<\/p>\n
