{"id":42172,"date":"2013-08-23T05:48:19","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T10:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=42172"},"modified":"2013-08-23T05:49:16","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T10:49:16","slug":"elsie-the-cow-coming-to-historical-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/08\/23\/elsie-the-cow-coming-to-historical-society\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Elsie the Cow&#8217; coming to Van Wert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>VW County Historical Society news<\/i><\/p>\n<p>A special visitor is coming to the Van Wert Historical Society this Sunday, August 25, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Elsie-the-Cow-artwork-8-2013.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-42173\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Sierra Exif JPEG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Elsie-the-Cow-artwork-8-2013.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a>A brown-eyed Jersey cow by the name of Elsie will be visiting the Red Barn on the campus of the Historical Society, and will be the highlight of the society\u2019s new special display featuring Van Wert\u2019s Borden Cheese factory memorabilia.<\/p>\n<p>The real \u201cElsie the Cow\u201d first became the spokesperson for Borden\u2019s dairy products in the early 1930s as a cartoon figure and was later featured in movies and TV commercials.\u00a0Elsie\u2019s first public display was at the 1939 New York World\u2019s Fair, when she became a fixture in the Borden\u2019s display.<\/p>\n<p>Reminiscent of that display, the Historical Society display features restored furniture pieces from Elsie\u2019s last visit to the Van Wert County Fair in 1951.
