COLUMBUS — As part of its ongoing commitment to support parents and educators as the Common Core State Standards are implemented in classrooms across the state, Ohio PTA announces the launch of the Ohio Common Core State Standards Assessment and Accountability Guide<\/i> created by National PTA\u00ae<\/sup>.<\/p>\n \u201cOhio PTA has been a forerunner in educating parents and communities about the Common Core State Standards,\u201d said Lisa Mack, president. \u201cWe are thrilled to release this new assessment guide as a tool to bring further understanding of the standards.\u201d<\/p>\n The guides are available in English and Spanish online at www.PTA.org\/studentsuccess<\/a> and will be rolled out throughout 2014.<\/p>\n Developed in collaboration with the Center for Strategic Research and Communication, the Common Core State Standards Assessment and Accountability Guides feature information in parent-friendly language, including background on the standards and state-specific information about their assessment consortium, the testing timeline, sample test questions, impacts on students, new accountability systems and ways for parents to get involved and support their child\u2019s learning at home.<\/p>\n The guides are being developed for every state that has adopted the Common Core State Standards and will serve as a valuable educational tool as states transition to new standards-aligned assessments in the coming years.<\/p>\n The Assessment and Accountability Guides are a companion to National PTA\u2019s popular Parent\u2019s Guide to Student Success<\/i>, which has been used throughout the nation by parents, school districts, community partners and departments of education. The grade-by-grade guide explains the Common Core State Standards and key items that children should be learning in English and math, features activities parents can do at home to support their child\u2019s learning, and highlights questions parents can ask their child\u2019s teacher.<\/p>\n The Ohio PTA, a 112-year-old branch of the National PTA, is comprised of nearly 72,000 members in over 500 units. The Ohio PTA was organized in May 1901. The organization works to make every child\u2019s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
