Ohio State Highway Patrol information<\/i><\/p>\n

The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol recently held a school bus safety program for Lincolnview elementary kindergartners in connection with National School Bus Safety Week, October 21-25. The theme for the week is \u201cStand Back from the Yellow and Black.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Wert Post Commander Lt. Les Brode, Trooper JJ McClain, and Inspector Tina Eley taught students how to properly get on and off a bus, the whereabouts of the school bus \u201cdanger zone\u201d, gave an emergency window demonstration, conducted a rear door evacuation and went through emergency practice situations.<\/p>\n

The video, \u201cBe Cool, Follow the Rules of School Bus Safety\u201d, was also shown to the kindergarten students.<\/p>\n

Patrol staff also provided 10 basic school bus safety rules for students. Those rules include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Be on time<\/li>\n
  • Never run to or from a school bus<\/li>\n
  • Stand back from the curb<\/li>\n
  • Don\u2019t push or shove<\/li>\n
  • Stay in your seat<\/li>\n
  • Don\u2019t yell or shout<\/li>\n
  • Always obey the bus driver<\/li>\n
  • Wait for the driver\u2019s signal before crossing<\/li>\n
  • Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus<\/li>\n
  • Never crawl under a school bus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Kindergarten students also participated in a coloring contest sponsored by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
