{"id":44628,"date":"2013-10-28T07:02:05","date_gmt":"2013-10-28T12:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=44628"},"modified":"2013-10-28T07:02:28","modified_gmt":"2013-10-28T12:02:28","slug":"vw-girls-tennis-team-hands-out-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2013\/10\/28\/vw-girls-tennis-team-hands-out-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"VW girls&#8217; tennis team receives awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Van Wert girls\u2019 tennis information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert girls\u2019 tennis team celebrated its season Tuesday night with an awards banquet and dinner at Pizza Hut.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Chuck Rollins and Coach Kathy Mansfield talked about the many accomplishments that the girls had this past season and handed out individual awards for the players\u2019 accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving their junior varsity certificate and class numerals were freshmen Valerie Barnhart, Cheyenne Brown, Maggie Kistler, and Mary Mitchener. Upper classmen who received a JV certificate were junior Hannah Putt and sophomore Liz Lassiter.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving first-year varsity Letters were freshmen Jess Agler and Tabatha Tennie, sophomore Kali Agler; juniors Hannah Stemen and Sydney Felger; and senior Angela Li.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Ali Moreland received her second year varsity letter and seniors Claire Butler and Sydney Dull received their third year varsity awards.<\/p>\n<p>The most improved player award went to Agler, while the Coaches\u2019 Award went to Butler and Dull, both seniors.<\/p>\n<p>Moreland was named the team\u2019s\u00a0\u201cMost Valuable Player\u201d with her stellar play at first singles.\u00a0She also received a certificate for her third team All-WBL selection at No. 1 singles and a certificate for second team\u00a0All-District for Northwest Ohio. Butler received a\u00a0certificate for\u00a0second team\u00a0All WBL at No. 3 singles.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the season were recorded by the top three singles players as Moreland finished the season with a 20-9 record at No. 1 singles, Dull finished 14-12 at No. 2 singles, and Butler finished 18-6 at No. 3 singles.<\/p>\n<p>Dull was also named WBL \u201cSportswoman of the Year\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44629\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44629\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/2013-VW-girls-tennis-team-photo.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44629 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"The 2013 Van Wert High School girls' tennis team, with coaches Kathy Mansfield and Chuck Rollins.
