Lincolnview shared one of its outstanding programs during the 15th<\/sup> annual Student Achievement Fair on Nov. 12 at the 2013 Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Capital Conference and Trade Show. OSBA showcased 100 innovative programs at this year\u2019s fair, held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus.<\/p>\n

Students and staff from districts across the state exhibited their innovative programs at the fair. The event offered an opportunity to observe and learn what public school districts in Ohio are doing to enhance learning and achievement in their schools.<\/p>\n

The Student Achievement Fair is sponsored by the OSBA Student Achievement Leadership Team, which is an integral part of OSBA\u2019s focus on improving public education.<\/p>\n

Approximately 10,000 school board members, administrators, teachers, students, vendors and guests attended the four-day Capital Conference, which ran Nov. 9-13.<\/p>\n

The Agents of Change Group of Lincolnview High School was selected to participate in the OSBA event based upon its program\u2019s creativity and positive impact on student achievement.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In its 58th<\/sup> year, OSBA leads the way to educational excellence by serving Ohio\u2019s public school board members and the diverse districts they represent through superior service and creative solutions. For more information, contact OSBA or your local school board members.<\/p>\n

The word of the year in Physical Education class for grades 4-6 at Lincolnview Elementary is \u201cImprovement.\u201d\u00a0 At the beginning of the year, students were given a fitness test measuring their abilities in 4 of the 5 Components of Physical Fitness: Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Cardiorespiratory Endurance, and Flexibility.\u00a0\u00a0 This test will be given again at the end of the semester and for a final time at the end of the year.\u00a0 In class, students are focusing daily on what they can do to improve their fitness scores through the exercises and activities that are being covered.<\/p>\n

Kindergarten and first grade students are working on locomotor skills, non-locomotor skills, movement patterns and other basic fundamental skills.\u00a0 As these students become more developed, they will use these skills while working with others through a variety of games and activities in second and third grades.\u00a0 Most importantly, the elementary students are learning the importance of participating in a variety of physical activities outside of school.\u00a0 We hope that parents and guardians are providing time to be physically active with our students at home.<\/p>\n

Throughout the remainder of the year, Lincolnview will be integrating the newly purchased Fitnessgram Program into the curriculum, as it will be used to help assist in tracking student growth throughout the year.\u00a0 We are excited to use<\/p>\n

Fitnessgram as we feel it will motivate our students to continue to not only improve, but improve \u201cThe Lancer Way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paula Johnson, Student Council advisor, unintentionally failed to mention JJ’s Hair on the Square in last week\u2019s Lancer Lines. JJ’s Hair on the Square gave a generous donation for the Lancer 5K Glo-Run. This business has always been a huge supporter and contributor of all Lincolnview groups and organizations, from the high school down to the elementary school. Student Council apologizes for this oversight. We also had hand woven scarfs donated for use as door prizes by Mrs. Ford\u2019s stepmother.<\/p>\n

We would also like to recognize the Junior High for having 101 students qualify for our Skyway Program. As a result of their efforts, they will be attending their first Skyway rewards activity on Nov. 25.\u00a0The students will be seeing Catching Fire, <\/i>the second\u00a0installment of the Hunger Games.<\/i><\/p>\n

Student Each year, Lions clubs around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. This year\u2019s winner of the peace poster contest at Lincolnview Local Schools was Jordyn Oakman. Her artwork was chosen and will now be judged at the district level. Sierra Adams was the runner up. They both were awarded a cash prize from the local Lions Club.<\/p>\n
