Van Wert independent\/Delphos PD<\/i><\/p>\n

DELPHOS — A Lima teenager was a problem for Delphos City Police over the weekend.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Delphos police were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of South Bredeick Street to answer a call of a person trying to enter a residence. After officers arrived, they located a person matching the description of the suspect in the case: Marcus Backus, 18, of Lima.<\/p>\n

Police also noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Backus and began to question the teen on why he was in the area. Backus then fled on foot and was able to elude officers at that time. Meanwhile, a record check on Backus discovered that an active arrest warrant issued in Allen County on a charge of failure to appear on a dangerous drug offense.<\/p>\n

A day later, police officers located Backus in the 200 block of West Clime Street, but he again tried to ran from police. This time a Delphos officer deployed his Taser, striking the teen in the back and immobilizing him.<\/p>\n

Backus was then taken into custody and transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility on a charge of obstructing official business. In addition, he also faces a second count of obstructing official business, as well as underage consumption of an alcoholic beverage from the incident early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Once the teenager is released from the Van Wert jail, he will be transferred to Allen County to face charges filed there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
