For the Obstetric Department at Van Wert County Hospital, the arrival of the first baby born of the New Year is always an exciting time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New Year is a symbol of renewal and what could be better than welcoming a new baby,\u201d said Sami Joseph, director of medical-surgical services, pediatrics and obstetrics. \u201cWe look forward to sharing this special moment with our families and babies each year.\u201d<\/p>\n

To their amazement, Audrey Chavez and Isaac Chavez-Ibarra gave birth to the Van Wert County Hospital\u2019s first baby of 2014. They welcomed their son, Cruz Lee Chavez, into the world at 1:18 a.m. Wednesday, January 1. Delivered by Dr. Carrie Huber, the baby weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 20 inches long.<\/p>\n

For having the first baby of the year, the couple received a gift basket valued at over $1,300 worth of gifts from area businesses.<\/p>\n

Generous supporters include Amy Holdgreve Photography\/Furley Photography, Betty’s Medical Massage Therapy, Citizens National Bank, DeShia, Edward Jones-Ryan Lindemann, First Federal Savings & Loan, Gaylord E.
