Ohio Attorney General\u2019s information<\/i><\/p>\n

COLUMBUS — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced the top 10 list of consumer complaints filed in 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsumer complaints help us determine which issues are most affecting Ohioans,\u201d Attorney General DeWine said. \u201cWe handle complaints through our informal dispute resolution process to assist consumers and businesses in reaching a mutual agreement to resolve the issue. We\u2019re here to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2013 top 10 consumer complaint categories were:<\/p>\n

  1. Motor Vehicles<\/li>\n
  2. Collections, Credit Reporting, or Financial Services<\/li>\n
  3. Do Not Call<\/li>\n
  4. Internet, Phone, or TV Services<\/li>\n
  5. Household Goods or Property Improvement<\/li>\n
  6. Professional Services<\/li>\n
  7. Shopping, Food, or Beverages<\/li>\n
  8. Health and Beauty<\/li>\n
  9. Sweepstakes or Prizes<\/li>\n
  10. Mortgage<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Among motor vehicle complaints, consumers reported the most problems with used car sales and obtaining titles. Attorney General DeWine reminded consumers to contact the Attorney General\u2019s Office if a car dealership fails to provide a title within 30 days of the sale.<\/p>\n

    Also among the nearly 26,500 total complaints filed in 2013 were 578\u00a0complaints involving\u00a0identity theft, a fast-growing complaint category. Attorney General DeWine launched an Identity Theft Unit in September 2012, and 2013 was the unit\u2019s first full year in operation. The unit helps identity theft victims rectify the effects of identity theft, such as fraudulently opened accounts or purchases made on existing accounts.<\/p>\n
