{"id":47450,"date":"2014-01-15T07:21:29","date_gmt":"2014-01-15T12:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=47450"},"modified":"2014-01-15T07:21:32","modified_gmt":"2014-01-15T12:21:32","slug":"latta-bill-to-aid-community-water-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2014\/01\/15\/latta-bill-to-aid-community-water-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta bill to aid community water projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Van Wert independent\/submitted information<\/i><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212; U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Ohio), along with Representative Tim Walz, (D-Minn.), introduced the Clean Water Affordability Act of 2014.\u00a0 This bill will assist municipalities to more affordably manage their wastewater infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bipartisan bill will help communities with EPA mandated water infrastructure improvement projects,\u201d Latta said. \u201cMuch of our district\u2019s rural communities and municipalities are burdened with EPA mandates for water infrastructure projects with no financial assistance, therefore forcing communities to cover the total cost for these mandated projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf H.R. 3862 is signed into law, cash-strapped municipalities will receive much needed relief by receiving additional flexibility for managing these projects,\u201d the Ohio congressman added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone should have access to a clean, affordable, and abundant supply of drinking water,\u201d Walz said. \u201cThis bipartisan bill will cut through red tape and give our rural communities the flexibility and certainty they need to provide that water supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, H.R. 3862 amends the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, updating the EPA\u2019s clean water affordability policy to assist municipalities\u2019 that cannot meet unfunded mandates to improve their wastewater infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>Under the bill, municipalities will have an extended loan repayment period from the current limit of 20 years to 30 years, as well as allow extra time for their implementation schedules of up to 30 years for projects.
