Washington St. &#8220;Happy Holidays 2013&#8221; was the competition theme in prints and slides that evening.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Gribler&#8217;s picture of the Van Wert Historical Society&#8217;s Museum on North Washington Street was the clear print winner. There was a tie for second, however, and on the revote, Will Hawkins&#8217;s shot of the Presbyterian church&#8217;s manger scene was declared the winner. Chris Wilson&#8217;s slide of his snowy back yard won the slide category.<\/p>\n<p>President Chris Wilson then passed out sheets with possible competition themes taken from the questionnaire he&#8217;d distributed before the meeting and asked that each person mark six that they liked. \u00a0A frequency count of the responses determined the following results: \u00a0February: Night Photography, March: Winter Scenes, April: Humor, May: Moving Water, June: Flowers, July: Wild Life, August: Sports, September: Summer Scenes, October: Fall Scenes, and \u00a0November: Special Effects.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47477\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47477\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1pHolidays.VW-Historical-Museum.-Nancy-Gribler.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47477 \" style=\"border-width: 1px;border-color: black;border-style: solid\" alt=\"Photograph by Nancy Gribler.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1pHolidays.VW-Historical-Museum.-Nancy-Gribler.jpg\" width=\"330\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47477\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photograph by Nancy Gribler.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After some discussion, it was decided that photographs not older than five years which had not previously won could be submitted in this year&#8217;s competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Using the same method as was used to determine the competition themes, the following Instructional Programs were selected for the first part of the year: February: Special Effects, March: Colorizing Parts of Black and White Photos, April: Composition, May: Low Light Photography and June: Still Life Setups.<\/p>\n<p>Eight of a possible 14 Field Trips were discussed, but no definite dates were set until more information could be gathered.<\/p>\n<p>The club expressed appreciation to Karl and Nancy Gribler for the refreshments they provided and welcomed guests: former president Keith Mongold, Dennis Kitsemble of Van Wert, Clark Rasneor of St. Marys, and Wassenberg Art Center staff Hope Wallace and Matt Temple.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47478\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47478\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1sHolidays.WinterWonderland.Chris-Wilson.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47478\" alt=\"Photograph by Chris Wilson.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1sHolidays.WinterWonderland.Chris-Wilson.jpg\" width=\"330\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47478\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photograph by Chris Wilson.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The club&#8217;s next meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 at the Wassenberg Art Center. The photo competition will be &#8220;Night Photography&#8221; and the program will be on Speical Effects.
