Conn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kenneth L. Conn, 89, of Mullett Lake, Mich., died Monday, January 13, 2014, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Mich.<\/p>\n<p>He was born May 17, 1924, in Van Wert, the son of the late Lee and Elizabeth (Little) Conn. On June 9, 1951, he married Barbara \u201cBunny\u201d (Bernheisel) Conn, who preceded him in death in October 2011.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from high school, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II with the Marine detachment on the USS Rochambeau in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, as well as in Alaska and Maryland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8711\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"American Flag for obituaries 6-2011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\" width=\"125\" height=\"66\" \/><\/a>Ken worked as a mortgage banker and served as a vice president with the Equitable Life Assurance Company in Detroit, New York and Atlanta, and retired in 1984 after 33 years of service. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Mullett Lake Country Club, where he was a past president, the Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., and Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham, Mich. He was also a 20-year member of the \u201cWolves,\u201d a private men\u2019s bridge club in Pinehurst, N.C.<\/p>\n<p>Ken enjoyed reading and traveling the world with his wife, Bunny, for over 20 years, but most of all he will be remembered as a dedicated, giving and loving family man who was very well respected by all who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include his two children, Linda (Bob) Schindler of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Bill (Jane) Conn of Wilmington, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Matthew (Dominique) Ahumada of New York City, Ruggy Ahumada of Phoenix, Ariz., and Caroline Conn and William \u201cWic\u201d Conn, both of Chapel Hill, N.C.<\/p>\n<p>A sister, Alice Purmort; and one brother, Max, in infancy, also preceded him in death.<\/p>\n<p><b>A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at Nordman-Christian Funeral Home, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Bob Schindler, officiating. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ken\u2019s name may be directed to the Mullett Lake Preservation Society, the Northern Michigan Animal Rescue Network or the Little Traverse Conservancy.<\/p>\n<p>Those wanting to share a memory of Ken are invited to do so at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com\">www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenneth L.
