Since February is American Heart Month, it\u2019s a great time to put your heart into a worthwhile cause: donating blood at an American Red Cross blood drive to help hospital patients who require blood transfusion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Red-Cross-Blood-Donation-artwork-8-2011.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-42092\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Red Cross-Blood Donation artwork 8-2011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Red-Cross-Blood-Donation-artwork-8-2011.jpg\" width=\"307\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Red-Cross-Blood-Donation-artwork-8-2011.jpg 640w, https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Red-Cross-Blood-Donation-artwork-8-2011-550x415.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/a>\u201cBlood donations help many types of patients, including cardiac patients who are one of the leading users of blood and blood products,\u201d said Tracy Fox, Communications Manager, with the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the Red Cross. \u201cWhen individuals roll up their sleeve, they help build the blood supply. This is important anytime, but especially during the cold, wintry months when blood donations tend to decline. It\u2019s important that the blood is on the shelf when hospital patients need a transfusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since 1963, the President of the United States has proclaimed February as American Heart Month. \u201cDonating blood, and sharing your good health with others less fortunate, is a great way to observe this annual event,\u201d Fox stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re asking more people, young and old alike, to have a heart and give blood this February.
