Van Wert swimming teams<\/i><\/p>\n

PORTLAND, Ind. — The Cougar swim team traveled to Portland, Ind., for the annual Jay County High School invitational, involving 10 teams from Indiana and Ohio.\u00a0 Both the boys and girls teams finished in fourth place.<\/p>\n

Celina took first place for the boys and Jay County emerged as the girls\u2019 champion, with East Central High School (Dearborn County, Ind.) taking runner up in the girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 events.\u00a0\u00a0 Other schools participating (in order of finish in the boys\u2019 standings) included Bellmont, Ada, Muncie Southside, Coldwater, Fort Recovery and Marion Local.<\/p>\n

In total, the Cougar boys and girls scored in 47 of the 52 entered events.<\/p>\n

All five boys\u2019 relay teams scored.\u00a0 The best finishes were fourth place by the 200-yard medley\u00a0 (Dan Silette, Eric Easley, Sam Easley, Adam Jurczyk), and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Jacob Scheidt, Sam Easley, Jurczyk, Eric Easley)\u00a0 teams.\u00a0 The 200-yard freestyle \u201cA\u201d relay (Josh Overholt, Cade Fleming, Silette, Scheidt) earned sixth place. The \u201cB\u201d 200-yard freestyle relay took 12th and the 200-yard medley relay teams scored, finishing in 13th place.<\/p>\n

All five girls relay teams also scored points for the Cougars.\u00a0 The best finish was recorded by the 400-yard freestyle, with Holly Hammond, Katie Trittschuh, Peyton Fleming, and Hannah Stemen taking fifth place.\u00a0 The 200-yard freestyle relay, with Bethany Fast, Fleming, Katie Trittschuh, Andi Foster, claimed ninth place.\u00a0 The 200-yard medley relay team took seventh place; members were Stemen, Fast, Karlyn Koontz, and Holly Hammond.\u00a0 Additionally, the girls 200-yard \u201cB\u201d freestyle relay (Landrie Koontz, Madison Pauquette, Haley Richardson, Mackenzie Agler) and the 400-yard \u201cB\u201d relay (Foster, Agler, Fleming, Koontz) both scored 12th place finishes.<\/p>\n

The next meet for the Cougars will be a dual meet at Defiance High School on January 21.<\/p>\n
